What is there to see and do in the area?

The Laird & Dog Inn is perfectly positioned in the town of Lasswade for visitors looking to explore all the Edinburgh and the east coast have to offer.

Set into the hillside of the stunning Pentland Hills Regional Park, only a 10 minute drive from the Lard & Dog, Midlothian Snowsports Centre offers all the fun and adrenaline you'd expect from Britain's biggest artificial slope!

For a great family day out visit Camera Obscura and World of Illusions, Edinburgh's oldest visitor attraction. Spy on passers-by in the street below or pick them up in your hand! The kids will also love Edinburgh Zoo which features a daily penguin parade! Our Dynamic Earth is an interactive experience where visitors explore the planet's past, present and future. A favourite with children and grownups alike.

The National Museum of Scotland tells the history of Scotland, its land, people, and culture. While the National Gallery of Scotland comprises works from every major figure of art in the Western World with a large collection of works by Scottish artists. Learn all about the gruesome side of Scotland's history at the Edinburgh Dungeons where you'll be taken on a journey through the past by a host of grizzly characters. So much fun it's scary!

Visit the Scottish Whiskey Experience where you actually become part of the whiskey making experience on a barrel ride through the distillery and sample some specially selected whiskies.

Just one mile from the city centre, the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh offers visitors peace and tranquillity amongst 72 acres of stunning scenery.

Edinburgh's Royal Mile is one of the most famous streets in the world stretching from Edinburgh Castle down to the Palace of Holyrood House. Filled with gift shops it's a must for visitors to the city. Edinburgh Castle overlooks the city below from the top of an extinct volcano. Visitors to the castle can view the original 12th century features of the building and hear the ‘1 o'clock gun' in all its glory. The castle is also the site of many concerts throughout the year and the famous Edinburgh Military Tattoo.

Half way along the Royal Mile is St Giles' Cathedral. St Giles' was the church of John Knox during the reformation. Highlights include stunning stained glass windows.

The Palace of Holyrood House is the Queen's official residence in Scotland. At the end of the Royal Mile it boasts ‘The Queen's Gallery', stunning views of Edinburgh and rooms featuring magnificent furnishings and tapestries.

The remains of the extinct volcano, Arthur's Seat, rise 823 feet above Edinburgh. This notable landmark of the city is great for a walk on a summer's day.
